earns recoanition
The federal Small Business Administration has recognized
USC's College of Business Administration as one of four
programs in the country providing outstanding consulting
services to local businesses.
SBA District Director Vern Amick of Columbia presented
honorable mention certificates for the 1980 National Small
Business Institute Student Award to business Professor
Herbert Hand and Steve Rhodes, one of two students in a USC
business course who provided outstanding business consultation
services to Columbia businessmen.
USC was one of four runners-up in the SBA's annual
competition. USC was selected for the award from 10.000
student-faculty teams representing 470 colleges and
universities nationwide.
Rhodes, a trainee with the First National Bank of
Columbia, and Michael Porter, a Virginia lawyer who
completed USC's combined master's of business administration
and law degree program, were students in
Hand's fall 1978 small business manaeement cnursn
During the past four years, Hand's classes have won eight
district and two regional SBA awards.
