In a couple of weeks, hundreds of
young football players will be
reporting to National Football
League training camps all across
the nation.
Among the many hopefuls that
will be trying to earn a spot in the
NFL is former Gamecock
defensive lacKie &teve Bernisn.
The 6-4 260-pound Bernish was
selected in the eleventh round of
this year's NFL college draft.
Despite the late selection,

Bernish remains optimistic about
his chances with the Giants. "It'll
be tough, but I think my chances
are good," Bernish said while

"This kind of makes things look
good for me...I hope."

Giants will be looking for defensive
lineman this year. "They had a lot

"A lot of the scouts told me

Bernish realistically
acknowledges that his best chance
to make the Giant squad will be by
devoting his first-year services to
the specialty teams. "In rookie
camp, they really had a big thing
about the specialty teams. They
impressed it upon the rookies that
that's how you are going to nake
the team," he commented.
Bernish said he has not played on
specialty teams since his freshman
year at USC and at the time he
