Lady Gamecock basketball
player Shelia Foster was recently
selected All-American by the
National Scouting Association of
Women's Professional Basketball
league.
The 6-1 Foster averaged 16.4
points and 10.5 rebounds a game
this past season in leading USC to a
30-6 reeord and a third place finish
in the AIAW national tournament.
Foster, a native of Spartanburg,
was named to the American
Women's Sports Federation AllAmerican
team earlier in the yepr.

TOM OWENS SIGNED a threeyear
contract Wednesday with the
Portland Trail Blazers.
The (j-foot-10 Owens became a
free agent at the end ot the 1979-80
National Basketball Association
season and reportedly had been on
the verge of signing with the
Seattle SuperSonics.
However, at the last minute a
week ago, the veteran player from
USC changed his mind and said he

Blazers. Owens said he decided to
sign with Portland for personal
reasons.
Owens was Portland's starting
center for the past two seasons.
Last season he averaged 1(5.4
points and 8 rebounds per game.
Terms of his new contract were

carrying an annual salary of
$300,000 a year.
