THE SIXTH HOLE is the
course's toughest par 4. Plavine
470 yards the sixth hole requires a
pin-point drive and a well struck
second to reach this brute of a par.
4. The players will need at least a
250 yard drive to enable them to
see the green with their second
shot.
As with any U.S. Open course the
finishing holes will decide the
championship and make or break
the players who are fortunate
enough to be in contention on
Sunday afternoon. The 17th plays
to a total of 630 yards, the longest

wooden shots the golfer is left with
a short iron to a green perched on a
rise. Absolutely no golfer will
reach the green in two.
After playing 17 holes the final
hole will enable the certain few
players the opportunity to vie for
one of golf's biggest prizes.
Playing 542 yards this par 5 is a
gentle dog-leg left which is
protected by trees on both sides of
the fairway and a stream which
cuts across the fairway approximately
120 yards from the

and hign enough to carry the
bunker which sits right in front of
the green.
"Baltusroi is one of this country's
outstanding fine courses,"
Boatwright said. "The course has
no blind shots or hidden traps.
Everything is right in front of you.
. Baltusroi confronts the golfer with
a tough, but fair challenge. The
winner will be a golfer best able to
meet what the Lower has to offer.''
