With the best of this year's
Easter movies Little Darlings and
The Black Stallion not yet out of
the theaters, the major film
distributors are busy preparing
more than 50 movies for release
between now and September.
The Summer Season officially
gets under way on May 16, when
Walter Hill's The Long Riders
opens. The second in a wave of 1980
westerns (Tom Horn was the
first), The Long Riders stars four
sets of brothers: David, Keith and
Robert Carradine; James and
Stacy Keach; Randy and Dennis
Quaid; and Nicholas and
Christopher Guest.
Also due on the 16th are
Hollywood Knights, Floyd
Mutrux's comedy about a youth
gang, and The Nude Bomb, which
until recently was called The
Return of Maxwell Smart. The

about three carnival performers
(played by Jodie Foster, Gary
Busey and the Band's Robbie
Robertson) in a love triangle;
Happy Birthday, Gemini, the
movie version of the long-running
off-Broadway comedy,Gemini;
and The Human Factor, the latest
thriller from one of the masters of
the genre, Otto Preininger.

the big-budget pictures set to open
that month.
Dudley Moore, the hilarious star
of 10, returns June 13 with Wholly
Moses. It's the story of a lost book
of the Bible, the book of Herschel,
and it features a number of cameo
appearances by the likes of Dom
DeLuise, Madeline Kahn, Richard
Pryor and John Hitter.
Premiering on the same day
are; The Island, Michael Ritchie's
thriller about modern-day pirates,
based on the harrowing novel by
Peter Benchley; Bronco Billy,
another revolting (if the previews
can be taken as an indication) Clint
E.'astwood comedy with country
music; and The Shining, Stanley
Kubrick's long-awaited film
version of Stephen King's
terrifying book. It stars Jack
Nicholson and Shelly Duvall.
