'Foxes' i

Foxes, the directorial debut of
Adrian Lyne, could have benefitted
from having a script that was a bit
less sympathetic toward its sub
ject matter. In a story about four
teenage girls fighting to stay
together while the world around
them crumbles, Gerald Ay res'
screenplay paints each of its
protagonists as a mini-martyr,
even though many of the girls'
activities are illegal, immoral, or
both.

touching in a way that makes us
wonder why it effects us at all. I
suppose we ultimately sympathize
with Jeanie, Annie, Madge and
Deirdre because of their
surroundings and .because of the
