USC captured the state title against Clemson 5-4
Friday, as well as placing two doubles teams and two
singles players in individual competition at
regionals.
The regionals, to be held at East Tennessee State in
Johnson City, Tenn. May 8-10, will pit USC against the
top teams in Region Four.
Coach Jeff Kefalos said USC is one of the best
teams in the region. "We'll probably be seeded-one
and Clemson two in the regionals. We're the two
toughest teams in the region, so we'll probably play
them again," he said.
IN INDIVIDUAL competition, USC's Susan Smith
and Clemson's Susan Hill will be competing in
regionals, with a playoff match scheduled between
USC's Colette Bennett and Carol Henz Monday.
In doubles play, USC's Smith and Missy Malool and
Bennett and Carol Fullerton will be in regionals, as
well as Clemson's Jody Trucks and Libby Cooper.
The top three in singles and doubles at Clemson
qualified to play in regionals. An unseeded ladder
was set up with eight players in the first round and
four players with byes. Winners advanced to the
quarterfinals. All but one player in the semi-finals
qualified for the tournament.
Kefalos said the top four in singles and doubles in
regionals go to the national playoffs. "I would say

regionals), so I think they'll qualify," he said.
