The intrepid USC Windsurfing Club is at it again. The
dedicated members of this progressive Sport Club were
undaunted by the icy water, the one-and-a-half foot
swells, and the 20-knot winds of Lake Murray, as they
windsurfed thoughout this past winter. Now watch them
go for it again this spring at the first South Carolina
Windsurfing Championship. Sponsored by the USC
Windsurfing Club and Dannon Yogurt, this first annual
championship tournament will take place this Saturday
and Sunday, April 19th and 20th, at the Lake Murray
Dam Park. Admission is $ 1.00 per car.
Windsurfers from the Ch rleston, Myrtle Beach and
Greenville areas as well as USC's own hotdoggers are
pected to compete in the regatta, which will feature
alom racing, port Olympic racing, and freestyle competition.
Hegistration tor the regatta oegins at o:ou a.m. April
1 9th at the park on the Lexington side of the Lake Murray
Dam. The $10.00 registration fee includes yogurt lunches
Saturday and Sunday, a Saturday night supper,
refreshments, and a T-Shirt.
Windsurfing, a combination of sailing and surfing, involves

The 1 0-year-old sport recently achieved Olympic status
and will be an event in the 1 984 Summer Olympic Games
for the first time.
The 30-member USC club held regattas at Lake Murray
in November and February, windsurfing in wetsuits in
one-and-a-half foot waves and high winds. The various
regattas included windsurfers from countries in Western
Europe, as well as ones living in the Columbia area.
The USC club maintains five windsurfing "units," each
consisting cm a Doara, sail, ana aaggerDoara. Members
store equipment at the Lake Murray Marina and can check
out boards daily until dark. In 1 979 the club make trips to
Myrtle Beach, Folly Beach, and Sullivan's Island to
windsurf on the ocean.
This past weekend, the nucleus of the Windsurfing
Club ventured down to Tampa, Florida to compete in the
Florida State Championships. This southern championship
