short scenes from such famous
playwrights as Shakespeare and
Somerset Maygham. Ms. Evans
and Ms. Hayes have performed
together for almost 50 years.
Performance artist Alyson Pou
will speak on "Power and Violence
from the Feminist Perspective,"
at 7 :30 Friday April 11 in Room 203
of Sloan College. The free public
lecture, sponsored by the USC
Department of Art, utilizes film,
video and acting to make social
commentary on such issues as
pornography and women. A native
of Atlanta, Ms. P(5u is active in
several women's arts
organizations and committees.
She has exhibited and performed
throughout the U .S.
The Columbia City Ballet will
host the first Invitational Dance
Festival in Columbia on April 14 at
the Township Auditorium beginning
at 8. The program, "Gala
Six" will inaugurate National
Dance Week and celebrate South
Carolina Dance Week. Six ballet
companies from S.C. have been
invited to participate in this
special performance which marks
a milestone in artistic cooperation
between dance groups in the state.
The USC Bands will perform in a
free public concert on April 13 at 3
in the Russell House Ballroom.
Performing groups include the
USC Symphonic band under the
direction of James Copenhaver;
Concert Band, directed by Larry
Volman; and Jazz Ensemble,
directed bv John Emche. Student

Novelist William Price Fox
continues the USC Snrine Writers
Series April 16 with a reading in
the Belk Auditorium of the
Business Administration Building
beginning at 8. Writer-inresidenee
at USC, Fox is often
called a 20th century Mark Twain
for his humorous stories of his
native South. Born in Columbia,
Fox often features his boyhood
home in his work. A reception on
the third floor of Gambrell Hall
will follow Fox's reading. The
reading and reception are open to
the public.
The creative adventure, "A Day
with Lincoln" with actor Robert
Blake will be presented at
Workshop Theatre Friday April 18
at - 7. The production brings
