A resolution to investigate
Russell House University Union
was passed to make the union a
more "viable, effective body,"
said Michael Warshauer, Student
Government vice president.

Sounds was severely cut in their
budget request. Perhaps if they
had been a more viable group they
would have gotten their entire
funding request."
According to Warshauer, there
are no real problems now, but he
feels as though there could be some
improvements "to help make the
Union work better." He added, "I
think it needs a more campuswide
input."
Sen. Matt Ward said, "An ad hoc
committee is looking into how the
RHUU can better serve the

the past SG has given RHUU the
"brush off" and now those conflicts
between the two
organizations need to be resolved.

WARD SAID one of the problems
SG wants to investigate is, "the
Union operating within a closed
membership. It doesn't bring in a
lot of outside people into the
programming aspects."
But Ward disagrees with the
investigation. "If any student
wants to be involved with the

there and say so. I have never
heard a case of a student being
turned away who wants to be involved."
Ward said he would like to see
more done on improving relations
between SG and the Union. "A lot

p.m. Thursday in the Coker Life

Dr. John H. Steele, director of
the Woods Hole Oceanographic
Institution, will visit USC in honor
of the 10th anniversary celebration
of the Baruch Institute, Carolina's
center for coastal research and
teaching.
Steele has been involved in many
groups and committees participating
in matters relating to
international sea exploration and
ocean use and has been active in
many oceanographic experiment
projects.

Kent Flannery of the University
of Michigan will be the keynote
speaker at the evening banquet. He
will speak on the "Hole of Archeology
in Cultural Evolution and
Human Diversity; A

Ward also said, "Organizations
are going to be afraid of SG
because of the recent cuts they've
had to deal with."
Ward doesn't think SG should
have a special committee without
a representative of the
organization being a part of the
committee for more input.

resolution as it is now is too fuzzy
and I would like to know more

Acting on the resolution has been
postponed until the incoming
constitutional officers begin their
term. "That way we can work on it

ana ciear n up," Mitcneltree added.
PRESIDENT of RHUU, Ronnie
Jowers, is in favor of the resolution
to "study" the Union and to look
for ways to improve the Union and
its structure.
Jowers said he hopes that the
investigating committee will help
SG and the Union understand and
know each other better by working
together.
"It will give SG a better insight
to how hard we do work," Jowers
said.
