watch her teammates struggle
without her to a 75-74 victory. "I
knew I just had to keep my cool ?
this year and stay in the game,"
Foster said. "I knew my team
needed me and I'd be no good to
them on the bench. I said to myself
it they try anything, I'll just have
to overlook it."
"She (Mims) grabbed me
tonight out on the floor, but I
couldn't do anvthine but laugh."
Foster said. "I just put it aside,
because we needed that win. I just
couldn't blow up and lose it like
that."
The friendly sophomore said the
Clemson game was probably her
best game of the season. "Blowing
them out like we did made it our
best game of the season," Foster
^uiu. rosier was quiCK 10 poini OUl
this was not her personal best,
however. "I think I played better
in the N.C. State game," she said,
referring to the 76-64 victory over
the Lady Wolfpack during the
regular season in which she scored
31 points and collected 17
rebounds.
"Beating Clemson is a real
highlight for me because it shows
who is number one in the state, |
who s the best and all that good |
stuff," Foster said with a smile. "I
think Clemson realizes they're not
as good as we are."
For her efforts Foster was
named to the All-State team and
was also named the state's most
valuable player. "It's a real honor
to receive the Most Valuable
Player award," Foster said. "Now
we have to move on to bigger
things. I think wecan go far."
Against the 17th ranked Southern
Cal Lady Trojans, Foster again
was a dominant force. She scored
17 points and collected 14 rebounds
to help the Lady Gamecocks defeat
the Lady Trojans 70-(J0 in round one
of the AIAW qualifying tournament.
Foster didn't rest on her laurels.
In the second round against
Northwestern she had probably the
best game of her career. She
scored 32 points, grabbed nine
rebounds, had three steals and was
15 of 18 from the field.
Against Stephen F. Austin
Tuesday night, Foster did it again.
Although she was triple teaiped for
most of the game, she still
managed to score 18 points and
grab 10 rebounds.

Foster was also happy after the
win. "This is the biggest thing to
happen to me in basketball," she
said. "I knew we'd be good.but I

One thing is for sure. As long as
Sheila Foster is on the court, a
national title is not out of the
picture for the Gamecocks. As
Foster herself once put it, "The
sky is the limit."
