ranked teams in the state. The USC J
ruggers didn't disappoint the1 I
spectators. They "Won 15-3. ^

thereafter, Greenville gained I
possession and went the distance of I
the field before the IJSC crew I !
halted the drive close to the goal ] |

But playtime ended, and it was |
back to work. Carolina scored J
early in the second period to take |
the lead. USC raced 20 yards un- ?

After several free-for-all
slugfests, Carolina kicked two field
goals. i
"We always have a tough time
with Greenville. They're one of the
toughest teams in the state," coach 1
Jean Piere Chamblis said.
"We're 7-1 now, and we have a
good chance at the state championship
this year. Greenville won
the state championship in 1978, and
were runner-ups last year," he
added.
"\VK IIAI) A real good game.
Now we are going to be getting
ready for the state tournament. We
have got good odds at winning the
slate, captain Mark Morris said.

continued to win at the Sam Daniel
Tennis Center when they defeated

The Gamecocks swept all six
singles matches in straight sets.
The only close match was at
number-one where Arthur
Anastopoulo defeated Karl
Johnson 7-6,7-5.
Peter MacDonald defeated
Randy Redfield 6-1, 6-2 at the
number-tvyo slot. Chuck Hodgin
and Ulf Pettersson got a rest
Sunday, which moved Brian
McDonald up to the number-three
spot. He proved up to the challenge
when he beat Louie Meehan 6-3, 60.

6-2, 6-3 at number-four to capture
his second singles victory in as

recovering from a foot injury, was
victorious over Scott Sciotto 6-:*, 6-0
at number-five.
David Kramer defeated Bobby
Light 6-3, 6-2 to complete the
singles massacre. Coach Hon
Smarr was pleased with the singles
performance "I think we played
well," Smarr said. "Against
Virginia we were still showing
some of the effects of losing to
Texas, but we won three of the four
