u Greene S By Leroy Williams Gamecock Staff Writer USC will make a request to the Columbia City Council next week for the permanent closing of Greene Street. The university is seeking permission to close Greene Street in front of the Russell House and has been informally discussing the plan with city officials, David Rinker, vice president of Facilities Planning, said. Rinker said the closing request will be made to the council "in the next week." City officials are very receptive to the proposed closing, he said. "WE'RE OF THE mind to close it (Greene Street) more than it has been," Rinker said. The street will remain open on holidays and between semesters. Rinker said the City Council will decide whether to accept or reject the request. He said he doesn't know how long it will take for Council to reach a decision, and they would probably address the proposal at their first subsequent meeting.
