Dickey James Dickey, considered by many critics to be America's greatest living poet, will read from his work tonight at U.S.C. The second guest in the 1980 USC Writers Series, Dickey will begin the program at 8 in the Belk auditorium of the USC College of Business Administration. r\ru~?t-in r^ciHpnpp Hifkpv has enjoyed popular and critical acclaim. He read at the inauguration of President Carter and has been featured in numerous national publications. A NATIVE of Atlanta, Dickey joined the USC faculty in 1968 and was last year named Carolina Professor during spring commencement excerises. Author of numerous volumes of poetry, Dickey won the National Book Award in 1966 with Buck dancer's Choice. Other volumes have received similar critical ^ acknowledgement. A MEMBER OF the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Institute of Arts and Letters. The Strength of Fields, an anthology featuring the poem from which the book's title is taken, is Dickey's most recent publication. The poem was composed especially for the Carter inauguaration. AlONir. WITH HIS WRITING. Dickey regularly teaches a class in poetry composition at USC. This spring he is also teaching a survey course of 20th century American poets, a group in which he occupies a prominent postion. Earlier in the day, he will attend an autograph party in his honor at the USC Campus Bookstore and will be available to sign copies of his work from 3-4:30.
