The only thing that has been able
to stop the undefeated Carolina
baseball team - bad weather struck
again Saturday afternoon.
The Gamecocks doubleheader with
Old Dominion was washed out,
making it the sixth cancellation in
USC's first nine games.
Wofford nrobahlv wishpH thoir
game with Carolina last Thursday
had been canceled after they were
destroyed by a score of 30-0.
The Gamecocks scored in every .
inning but one and lashed out 21
base hits- including 12 for extra
bases. Bill Landrum hurled five
strong innings and picked up his
second win of the year. Landrum
struck out 12 and gave up only two
hits.
OFFENSIVELY, FIRST
baseman Jim Curl hit two home
runs in three at bats and tied the

in a game with five. Joe McCarthy
broke Curl's record when he
crossed the plate for the sixth time
in the next inning. McCarthy
knocked in seven runs and had two
singles, a double and a home run.
Rob Lowery had two home runs,
while center fielder Hobby
Vollmer cracked four hits in six at
bats. Captaiii Greg Jonson had
four hits in five tries.
Tom (Termite) Williams had
perhaps the most interesting
batting figures. Though hitless in
three at bats, he managed to scoro

According to Evelyn Johnson, |
auer naimme wnen mey learned
how to counter State's defense,
Carolina was able to take control of
the game once again. "They came
into a half court, either a 1-2-2 or an
I 1-2-1 front and we didn't get it ^
first. They stole the ball a couple
of times and went down for fast
breaks to bring the score down at
the half. At halftime coach showed
us what they were doing so we
could stop them," she said.

Carolina and State were pitted
against each other after both
teams lost in Friday's semifinals.
The Wolfpack was defeated by Old
Dominion 70-59, while USC lost 6754
to a Tennessee squad who they
beat bv four Doints earlier this
season.
Playing without the outside
shooting of Cheryl Autry who was
