women's basketball, their
questions were put to rest this
weekend when four of the top eight
teams in the country competed in
the Region II championship at the
Carolina Coliseum.
Old Dominion took the Region II
crown in what USC coach Pam

Gamecocks defeated N.C. State for
the third time this season, 68-55.
Sunday morning, the Lady
Gamecocks were issued a bid to
participate in the national
championship tournament, which
begins Wednesday. USC accepted
the bid and will take on Southern
California at 10:30 EST in Los
Angeles in the opening round.

After overcoming a lack of
momentum which plagued USC
throughout the tournament, the
Lady Gamecocks dominated the
boards and alternated defenses to p
take control of the game.
Defense proved to be a major
factor in the game as Carolina
employed a tight man-to-man to
build up a 14 point first half lead.
However, the Lady Wolfpack also
used defensive tactics to confuse
Carolina.
