Handicapped Awareness
Week events planned

Handicapped Awareness Week began yesterday at Russell
House as an effort to enlighten non-disabled people to physical
and attitudinal barriers handicapped persons face every day.
Events are sponsored by Services For Disabled Students and
the Affirmative Action Office. Activities at Russell House last
through Wednesday.
The American Association of University Professors
(A.A.U.P.) will conduct a workshop in the ballroom of the
Wade Hampton Hotel on Thursday and Friday. The purpose of
the workshop is to assist faculty members in teaching and

A wheelchair obstacle course will be set up today and
Tuesday on Greene Street from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wheelchairs
are available for persons interested in experiencing the task of
negotiating over college terrain.
Exhibits by various Columbia area service organizations
are on display in the lobby. In the theater films and slide
presentations are available for viewing.
A highlight of Handicapped Awareness Week is a per
formance by the deaf chorus, "Sign Connection," Wednesday,
11:30 a.m. to noon, in the Russell House lobby.
