Baynham pitched seven strong
innings before being replaced by
Martin Small. Baynham faced only
22 batters, one above the
minimum, and notched four
strikeouts while giving up only two
hits.

"I felt better as each inning went
along." Baynham said. "This was
the first game tor me this year,
and I won't deny the fact that I was
nervous and anxious to get on the
mound I just wanted everything
to fall into place, and it did.

and I tried to block it out of my

a little disapppointed I lost the no
hitter, but I'm glad 1 came back
and didn't let it bother me."

happy with the team's overall
performance. "I'm pleased with
the way we played. We swung the
bat real well. Bret pitched a fine
ballgame, with good control of his
pitches."
In the two games Carolina has
played, they have outscored the
opposition 29-2 while batting .403 as
a team. The pitching staff has yet
to give up an earned run.
"I stress pitching and defense,"
Raines said. "We throw strikes ,
and make the other teams hit the
ball, because we'll catch it. The
hitting keeps coming along. 1 like
to let the batters hit away." |
Carolina was schedule to
the Volunteers on Saturday, and
Georgia on Sunday, but both
games were canceled due to the
inclement weather. Tuesday's
game at UNC-Wilmington was also
called off. The Gamecocks are
scheduled to face Baptist today at 3
p.m. at the Spring Sports Stadium.
