Form* Willie T. Smith III Gamacock Staff Writer There have been several standout players at USC in the McGuire era, but the ones who has probably made the greatest mark in the pros is Brian Winters. Winters plays professionally for the Milwaukee Bucks and is doing very well. In his five yers with the Bucks he has made the all-star team twice and has been elected captain of the team the last four years. "I enjoy playing in Milwaukee a lot. We are fortunate in that we have a team of individuals who are all about the same age, so we understand eachother pretty well," Winters said. "We hope to be playing together for many more Former Carolina basketball s playing for the Milwaukee t having another fine year for I hah BUSSTI REST AURAN1 . r| TVVO^IVcU 11IJ IWrdiK Lndiri Fi'CC I )('( T nil mixed ( I Unit !j I.('I's^() h?k k lolli<'Si> ;{ I'irc kr>4 K) ihc 11?ii I 272*) K()S('\V(H )( I HliK k Averaging h zr Gameo years which is great because we consider ourselves one big. happy family." WINTERS ADDF.I) the Bucks are doing quite well and should make the playoffs. "Right now we are second in our division, which is the Mideast division, and are two games behind Kansas City. We've been playing really well lately so I think we have a good shot at overtaking them." One of the reasons Winters is optimistic about the rest of the season is the acquistion of a new player. "We just lost Bob Lanier from Detriot and since he started playing with us we are 6-1. The one we lost was a point loss to San Antonio Sunday," Winters said. "He's an outstanding center. mmBm mutt iii ^ jfl dBgjggj ; H^Sggp^ Wg \ I " T nl^WUL tandout Brian Winters is lucks of the NBA. Winters is }he Bucks. With him in there I think there's no limit as to how far we can go." Winters seems to be pleased , but not overjoyed about his progress this season. "I'm averaging about 17 points a game right now. I haven't had a particularly good season, but as long as the team is playing well I don't mind too much,"Winters said "MY BEST GAME scoring wise was 33 out on the West Coast against Golden State,"Winters said. "I've had other games where I've scored points and had a lot of assists and steals, so its really hard to say what the best game was." Winters said the best game of the season as a team came a week ago. "We were playing Phoenix in Milwaukee . We were down by a few points , but played tough in the stretch to come back and win it. It washome game and we need to win our home games. Also Phoenix is an excellent team and it's good for rf~ " ? v . \ Ft- ' ^ " ;y w- *: i v i v | va - i f . / A o N . "Since it is coach McGuire's last voar coaching, 1 wanted to make it hack to see him on the bench at least once more. He's a great man.' "I ALWAYS i:\IOV coming back to Columbia 1 have a lot of friends here and I go to school in the summer," Winters said.
