According to coach Jeff Kefalos, Furman is a good team, an annual qualifier for the national tournament and second only to College of Charleston in Division II strength in South Carolina. Playing a smaller school was to USC's advantage, Kefalos said. "That was a good opening match," he explained. "I felt like we're a better team than they are. The first couple of matches we need to get used to playing other teams."
