One of the fastest growing sports
in the country has been organized
into an active Sport Club here at the
University of South Carolina. The
Water Ski Club, now in its fourth year
of existence, offers an exciting
schedule and an amazing storehouse
of facilities to its members. These
facilities include a new Correct CraftSKI
NAUTIQUF. boat each year, a
slalom course, a new ski jump, an
assortment of skis, and a host of very
patient arid qualified instructors to
teach the beginner, as well as aid the
experienced skier, to improve his or
her skills.
The water ski season in South
Carolina usually extends from mid
March through November (weather
permitting). Since this is somewhat a
seasonal sport, it is necessary to

periods: Spring (Jan.-May), Summer
(June July), and Fall (Aug.-Dec.),
charging a nominal membership fee
for each period. During the season,
the ski boat will be in operation seven
days a week so that every member
will have ample opportunity to ski to
their hearts content!
Our ski site is located on the
Lexington side of Lake Murray, on a
vacant tract of land approximately
twenty minutes from campus. The
available cove provides excellent
conditions for all types of water
recreation including swimming,
fishing, sunning, skiing and an occasional
cooler of your favorite
beverages.

competing against some of the top
skiers in the nation. Competitive j
water skiing is divided into three j
events; slalom, tricks, and jumping.
Anyone having prior competitive
experience, and would like to try out
for our competitive team, is urged to

Friday, and Sunday, for both men and

showoff his "stuff," will continue
this Friday and Sunday (the 1 5th and
1 7th). The contests are played in
Gyms 1 and 2 in the P.E. Center,
beginning at 4:1 5 on Friday and 1:4 5
on Sunday.
Due to the high number of entries,
the male contestants were randomly
organized in four leagues, with about
30 players per league. The men will
continue through this singleelimination
tournament until there is
one champion for each league. These
four men will play in the preliminary
finals this Sunday evening in the P.E.
Center. The resulting two finalists
j will battle for the campus-wide
championship in front of the entire
school during halftime of the USC
Boston University game on Monday,
February 18th, at the Carolina
Coliseum.
The women will determine their
two finalists on Friday, Feb. 15th.
These two talented girls will play for
their Women's Championship also at
the Carolina Coliseum on Monday,
during the half-time of the same USCBoston
University qame,
Each game is supplied with an
official who is charged with enforcing
< the rules of regular basketball. The
contests are played within one eight
minute time' period. Winners are
determined by who is ahead after
eight minutes, or by the first player to
earn 20 points. Ties are decided in
one minute overtimes.
Field goals count as two points and
free throws ring up as one point. All
regular basketball fouls are being
