The Carolina baseball team has
been busy working out for several
weeks now at the spring sports
center in preparation for the upcoming
season.
Coach June Raines will have the
nucleus of last year's 31-16 squad
coming back. Thirteen veterans in
all will be returning from that
team plus righthanded pitcher Bill
Landrum, who missed 1979 with a
leg injury, and second baseman
Tommy Williams, injured in the
sixth game of the 1979 campaign.
The 53-game schedule includes
34 home games as well as 19 on the
road. The Gamecocks will play
four games against the perennially

Landrum had an 8-2 record in
1978 but fractured his right
kneecap just before the 1979 season
opened. He recovered in time to
post a 12-0 record with the Sullivan
Furniture team of Grand Rapids,
Mich., in American Baseball
Congress competition last summer.

1978. Infielder Jamie Thaw will
