The witty and comical folk
singer Tim Bays will perform
tonight and tomorrow at the
Golden Spur at 8p.m.
Contemporary Sounds has

Tim Bays does.
TIIV1 BAYS began his
professional career in 1972 at the
not so tender age of twenty-five.
The years before found him as a
foundry and assembly line laborer,
as a florist, short-order cook,
wallpaper hanger and sometimes a
college student. Along the way he
sang in a variety of gospel and folk
groups and took up the guitar.
During this eight years as a
professional, Bays has played with
such imaginatively named groups
as Curb Service and Leonard Wolf
and the Missionary Position Band.
Yet his best shows are always
when he can be himself ? by
himself.
Bays is famous for his Buffalo
song which features an audience
sing-along. Here the crowd
assumes various animal parts and
howl, bark, chirp and buzz to
"buffalo gals won't you come out
tonight."

He is a poet first. Much of his
music is lyrical and beautiful and
his songs are often vividly
descriptive ballads. The man is
talented and can conjure an awful
lot of music out of only six strings.
This versatility allows Bays to play
for, not at, his audience. His talent
with lyrics and guitar have earned
him concerts with the likes of John
Prine, Leo Kottke, Steve Goodman,
and David Bromberg.

subtle one which does best before
concert and listening room
