SG vote on bill eliminating SAC 11 t 1 aeiayea jl weeK By Megan Sexton Gamecock Staff Writer A bill to eliminate the Student Alloeations Comission was discussed in the student senate Wednesday and sent back to the rules committee for one week before voting. Sen. Bob Stein, who introduced the bill last week, said the bill will be more efficient and put power back in the senate where it belongs. The duty of allocating funds would be passed to the senate finance committee. THE FINANCE COMMITTEE would be co-chaired by the SG treasurer and the chairman of the finance committee who is appointed by the vice president. The other eight committee members will be senators, Stein said. Sen. William Fox suggested the student government code also be changed to provide for more than $1 for the SG secretary. As student body financial regulations now stand, the SG president receives $2,250, the vice president $1,850, the treasurer $1,500 and the secretary $1 a year. The rules committee will work on the bill this week and decide on a proper amount to pay next year's SG secretary. The finance committee will consider tho ronnosts J ' A commission for a graduation ball to be held every spring for the USC senior class was approved in the senate. THE GRADUATION BALL commission will be chosen each fall by the SG president with the consent of the senate. The commission will consist of two members of the senate community relations committee and six presidential appointees. The senate also passed a bill proposed by Sen. John Stelling, allocating $4,500 from student government funds to support the graduation ball. The bill needed immediate consideration in order to have the graduation ball on April 18 because a band needed to be reserved, SG Vice President Michael Warshauer said. THE SENATE also allocated the following funds for student organizations: the Mountaineering and Backnackirm Club was allocated $450 for safety equipment; . the American Marketing Association received $629 the Boxing Club $2,920; and the Flying Club $1,319. WUSC-FM was allocated $244; the Sports Parachute, Fencing, Boxing and Lacrosse clubs were allocated $7,901; the Cockfest $390; the Graduate Association of Life Sciences $150; GINT Undergraduate $1,400; the Graduate Society for the Advancement of Physical Sciences $821; and General Studies $273.
