The Student Senate denied the
request by the Executive Council
of the Russell House University
Union Wednesday of a $410allocation
for publicizing its
events.
The bill, amended by the Senate
Finance Committee, was
recommended by the Student
Allocations Committee to include a
sum of $1,000. The amendment cut
the amount requested to $410. This
was to be spent on one, two-page
advertisement in the Gamecock.
The advertisement was to include
a calendar of RHUU-sponsored
events during the spring semester.
Ron Jowers. of the RHUU
Executive Council said a grant of
$1,000 would go far to publicize its
events for the benefit of the student
body. A grant of only $410 would
limit the RHUU to one two-page
advertisement, he added.
"WE HAVE GRANTED this
organization a tremendous amount
of money, more than $225,000,"
Sen. Curtis Loftis said. "They
should make provisions in their
own budget for advertising, or give
it to the groups who need it."
