What would happen if Carolina
were to punt from the 15-yard line,
and the center snacDed the hall
over the punter's head and into the
end/one? The opposing team
would probably score either two or
seven points.
CAROLINA FANS would voice
chants of disapproval and fumble
through their programs in search
of the culprit's name. The same
fans however, probably would not
look in the program for the name of
the Gamecock center who snapped
a perfect spiraling ball into the

Hassen now concentrates on
centering for punts. Many people
might get a bit impatient waiting
on the side-line for only a few punts
per game, but not Hassen.
"I didn't get impatient because I
can't get impatient," Hassen said.
"With my job you have to be very
patient. You can really screw up

Hassen was recruited while in
high school by Florida. North
Carolina, Penn State, Pittsburgh,
many other schools around Pennsylvania
and of course by South
Carolina.
"I CAME II Kit K mainly because
of coach Carlen. He's a good
person and he's treated me right.
He really impressed me when he
came to my house to visit my
parents," Hassen said.
Hassen is the leader of the
punting unit given the name
"Hassen's Assassins" by Coach
Fligg last year. Taking great pride
in the "Assassins," Hassen said,
"in the locker room we have a
chart on each member of the
punting team. We keep up with
things such as forced fair catches,
forced fumbles, fumble recoveries,
and the average punt return
yardage which is very low."
"Last year our punting team was
first in the country in the lowest
punt return average against us,
but of course Max(Itunager)
helped that," he said. c
Hassen shows the strength of his
wrists every time he snaps the i
ball. "Some centers pick the ball
up before the snap, but I bring it f
straight off the ground. I get better j
consistency and I'm more com- c
fortable this way." he added.
After graduating, the BA
Management major, plans to
return to Pennsylvania. "I've been
sending resumes to companies up
there. I have talked to some banks
in this area, but I favor the north. I
enjoy cold weather and winter
even though most people don't.
