Robert M. Young's Rich Kids
tackles the important issue of how
children are affected by their
parents' divorce with style, wit and
compassion. The seeminalv ar
bitrary choice of title and the lack
of an effective advertising campaign,
however, have condemned
the film to an undeservedly short
run (Thursday is its last day).
The picture is told from the point
of view of two 12-year-olds, Franny
Philips (Trini Alvarado) and
Jamie Harris (Jeremy Levy).
Jamie's parents are divorced and
Franny's are planning to split as
well, so the two have a great deal
to talk about whenever thev'rc
able to sneak off together.
Unfortunately for them, on one
rendezvous, they are discovered
sharing a bath by seven parents,
step-parents and lovers. The en
suing arguments show the adults tc
be more immature than the
children, who calmly leave the
scene and go for a walk.
The movie is full of such
paradoxes, the most delightful of

1 One of the reasons Rich Kids
i works so well is its wealth of fine
acting. Alvarado and Levy are

mother, is especially fun to watch.

On the tecluiical side, the film is
very well executed, with Ralf D.

Rich Kids is funny, touching and
topical, and in these days, that's no
small accomplishment.
