To the Editor:
I read with increasingly
declining interest the article
concerning a freshman's (James
J. Corbett) response to the lobbying
efforts of Keith Stroup.
Stroup's lobbying interest is for the
decriminalization of marijuana,
not the legalization.
Corbett characterizes
"Mariiuana as a driicr ? mind
controlling substance and a personality
and character altering
agent." These statements brought
back memories of the absurdity of
the "Reefer Madness" period. I
was extremely surprised that the
writer didn't attribute some
physical atrocities to the smoking

thesized into the blood, (based on
Webster's definition of the word
"drug"). "Mind controlling

expanding substance, possibly.
I believe Corbett's mind has
taken the wrong and winding road.
We who openly advocate the
decriminalization of marijuana
are on the road to expanding civil
and human rights.
Corbett remembers the fall of
Home but obviously doesn't
remember the fall of American
proniDition laws. The Roman
anarchy did fall, the United States
democracy will also fall without*
the continuing expansion of civil
and human rights.
The article is not without blatant
contradiction. Corbett states, "We

As for the "securing of transient

Corbett closes with "Our minds

sentence must be suffering from a
severe case of tunnel vision. Our
minds are a great asset, don't shut

I suggest the young journalist
