Opening their home season today, the Lady ^
Gamecocks will play host to ten top-notch teams in ac
the Carolina Volleyball Classic. fir
Drawing on strong teams from all over the qc
southeast region, USC Coach Judy Martino and the
women's athletic department have put together a sa
tournament which they believe really deserves to be na
called a classic.

will provide one of the best displays of excellent
women's volleyball in the area. th
"They have to be pretty strong Division II teams to q.
De invited, so tne competition is a lot stronger man pr
it's ever been. This should be very, very good
volleyball," Martino said.
The size of the tournament is also an important ^
factor. Martino views it as a stepping stone to an Sq
ultimately larger, more well-rounded, and very
competitive tournament. M

have more teams from the midwest, the north, and
even some of the Florida teams coming up to play h<
each other," she said. "We're hoping that we can e]
build a good north-south rivalry." w
Participating in today's tournament are ten Region b<

DESPITE ALL of the excitement connected with
