scores on the 1978-79 Scholastic
Aptitude Test were slightly above
the national averages on English
composition and American history
sections, State Superintendent of
Education Charlie G. Williams
said Friday.
However, average scores of
South Carolina students on the
verbal and math sections slipped
slightly from the year before,
Williams said. Nationally, test
scores in those areas also declined.
THE AVERAGE SCORE of
South Carolina students on the
verbal section of the SAT slipped
from 378 to 376, while math scores
dropped from 409 to 407.
Nationally, verbal scores tell trom
429 to 427, and math scores from
468 to 467.
