Before Farrah Fawcett became one of television's
hottest properties, she was a bit player in several
motion pictures, most notably Michael Same's Myra
Breckenridge and Michael Anderson's Logan's Run.

latter brought her to the attention of SpellingGoldberg,
who cast her in Charlie's Angels.
As Jill Munroe, Farrah captured the hearts
(among other organs) of the American public. After a
year on the tube, with her bathing suit poster setting
new sales records every day, Charlie's favorite angel
decided to take wing and go back to films - this time
in leading roles.
Farrah's first starring role was in Lamont Johnson's
Somebody Killed Her Husband, a murder
mystery co-starring Jeff Bridges. In it, Farrah

both light comedy and serious drama. Unfortunately,
audiences didn't care to see Farrah in such a
downbeat film, so the picture was a financial flop.
Almost a year has passed since the opening and
closing of Somebody Killed Her Husband and Farrah
now has returned in a vehicle more suited to her
unique looks and personality. The new film is
Richard Sarafian's Sunburn and it's easily one of the
summer's better comedies.
Though it often resembles an episode of Charlie's

by the sweet and sexy presence of Farrah and by the
stellar performances of her two co-stars, Charles
Grodin and Art Carney.
Sunburn's plot has Farrah as a New York model
who, after a nasty divorce, is hired to pose as an
insurance investigator's wife while he's working on a
case involving the death of a millionaire industrialist
in Acapulco. The investigator, as protrayed by
Grodin, is a hilariously inept bachelor who fancies
himself a swinger, but who can't really cope with his
erotic encounters with the fairer sex. Carney por
trays the local detective whom Grodin hires as his
assistant.
During the course of the film, Farrah gets to do
everything she does best. She gets to model some
smashing new fashions, she gets to have practically
every man in Acapulco fall in love with her, she gets
to be chased by a bevy of bad guys and she gets to
dodge as many bullets as ever came her way in an
episode of Charlie's Angels.

While it's good to see a great deal of Farrah in the
movie, it's better to see that Sarafian didn't skimp on
dealing out scenes to Grodin and Carney. In fact,
Sarafian pretty much lets the two men steal the show.
In the farcical seduction scenes he shares with Joan

self-mockery that's as funny and as realistic as any of
Woody Allen's similar scenes in Sleeper and Love and
Death. Carney's wacky portrait of the pill-popping
private detective is the best work he's done since The
Late Show.
Farrah, Grodin and Carney succeed in keeping the
tone of Sunburn as light as possible. We never fear
that a stray bullet might accidentally strike one of
them and we never fear that the trio will fail to win in
the end. Still, we keep our eyes glued to the screen
just to make sure we are right.
Sarafian and his cast should be thanked for
creating such a thoroughly enjoyable summer movie.
Sunburn doesn't condescend to anyone and it never
insults. All the movie wants to do is let the viewer
have a good time and, towards that goal it is highly
successful.
