"We're in much better shape as
far as people knowing what they
are doing and where they will be

between 400 and 500 people on it."
Of the 22,000 students attending
USC this fall, only 7,500 will be
living on campus. "A few hundred
won't show up for various
reasons," Wertz said, "and we'll

when these things balance out," he
said. "We've already placed
several hundred people off- campus."

temporary housing such as hotels,
and others have short term leases,
and when we get to their names on
the waiting list, we'll let them
know," Wertz said.
The cost of off-campus housing
has gone up more than on-campus
housing because of the increasing
population of Columbia, Wertz
said. "In the past.it wasn't so bad
because Columbia had so many
apartments, it was practically

but Woodrow , Wilson and

asking students not to move in until
the weekend of Aug. 27th," Wertz
said.
Harper will not be used this
semester so it can be renovated.

"We also provide a list of mobile
home lots for those interested in
moving their trailers," Parrot said.
"For families, we provide in
formation on day-care tacilities
and school districts," she said.
"One of the first things we
recommend is that people look into
bus routes, bicycling or car
pooling," Parrot said. "We always
ask the listed renters how close to
bus routes they are."
