in the Columbia area. And gas
rationing or an odd-even allocation
system becomes more of a
possibility for the entire state.
The question raised by these
conditions should not be how to
best cope with the inevitable, but
how to avoid it in the future. And
alternative fuels offer the greatest
hope.
In this regard, the state of South
Carolina has made a positive step
in the right direction with the

Council. Made up of representatives
from several state bodies,
the council is designed to coordinate
efforts toward developing

Many feel South Carolina's
agricultural potential makes the
production of alcohol fuels a
feasible and viable course to ?n

Many states are joining South
Carolina in programs aimed
toward enhancing the production
of alcohol fuels. And while these
programs are not an end-all to the
problems caused by the shortage
of oil in this country, they are an
honest attempt to lessen our
dependence on fossil fuels.
