petition
>airs
ne sun deck," said Stephen
vlulkey, Douglas seventh floor hall
idviser.
"Right now it's on low priority,"
le said. The petition calls for
Residential Life Services to repair
he roof before the end of the
>emester.
"Many people get rowdy over a
hing like this, so we've got
petitions going around so that
hings are more formal," Mulkey
?aid. "The petition is not our way
)f being troublemakers," he adied.
"We're just trying to do things
n the proper way and with a
>ositive attitude, because the
lousing people are generally
*esponsive and willing to help.''
A problem with any renovations
?r repairs is deciding what work
hould be done first, according to
)avid Macaulay, director of men's
lousing. Money and time have to
>e taken into account, he said.
'The amount of lumber needed to
:ompletely replace that deck
vould come to quite a bit of
noney," Macaulay added. "I'm
lot sure we have the money right
low."
James "Red" Smith, assistant
nanager of the Towers Complex,
>aid the Douglas sun deck was
:losed for safety reasons. "I didn't
vant anyone to break a leg or cut
heir foot up there," he said. The
ieck is badly warped and has
many protruding nails and missing
ooards, Smith added.
A maintenance check revealed
hat about 75 boards will be needed
o restore the sun deck, Smith said.
"It's a matter of putting all
necessary renovations in perspective
and priority, with the
ultimate view of getting the
maximum done with the minimum
expenditures," Smith said. "We've
3nly got a few more weeks left. If it
^ould possibly be done before then,
we'll do it," he added.
