Some USC Law School and
faculty disagree with the recent
S.C. Supreme Court alterations of
S.C. bar-exam guidelines, Richard
Day, dean of the USC Law School,
said.
"I THINK that the school does
not agree with the ruling, or else
we wouldn't have petitioned the
court," Day said.
The supreme court is concerned
about lawyer competency, he said,
"but we think the rule has
problems." Day added, "It could
very possibly scare people away
from practicing law in South
Carolina."
David Clegg, USC law student
said he may have to take the North

would have to take unnecessary

Under the new guidelines, S.C
bar applicants are required tc
observe a number of trials to fulfill
"trial experience," requirement*
before taking the bar exam. Clegg
said this is not needed becausc
there is already a clinics-program
course offered where students tr>
cases under the supervision of a
licensed attorney. The clinics
program is not a required course,
according to Clegg.
