Dave Roback Christii all tl" By Victoria Aldrich Gamecock Staff Writer Man is just as capable today to perform the healings that Jesus Christ did, with the exception of resurrection, according to Harold Rogers, Christian Scientist and worldwide lecturer. Rogers, whose lecture at the Russell House Wednesday was sponsored by the USC Christian Science Organization, said healings and all things are possible, for man is perfect and a reflection of a perfect God. "PERFECT GOD and perfect man is perfect cause and perfect effect," Rogers said. "An eternal God must forever manifest itself in an eternal man. You cannot have cause without effect; you cannot have God without man or man without God," he said. Of four billion people on this planet only a small fraction have an understanding of their true identity, Rogers said. The five physical senses hinder us from finding this identity, and thinking of man as matter is a mistake, he said. "The most enlightening prophet of all, Jesus Christ, saw men as purely spiritual beings/' he said. Rogers said the problem with some people is they have an image of a man-projected God. A manprojected God is one invented in ~ I i-j ... . uic uummi mina, a magnmed mortal. "This is a God that does not exist," he said. ROGERS WARNED that belief in astrology and reincarnation will harm the true identity. Rogers referred to astrology as a "false science," which bases man's destiny on stars and planets. "A further false claim is stars and planets control those who do not know or believe," he said. "Man reflecting God has dominion over the universe." Only mortals have signs, but immortals, sons and daughters of God, are signless, he added. Rogers urged the group not to read the astrological columns in newspapers and to declare oneself signless. REINCARNATION, the belief that the soul will return in another life form after death is a belief of oriental mystic religions. "We (Christian Scientists) believe life is continuous, moving spiritually upward. We don't return to the present plane," Rogers said. "There is no duality; there is just you with no history of mortality." $ % * i luuiumi ^ ^ n * in Scienti / lings pos* 'You cannot have effect; you canno without man or n , Rogers said Christian Scientists believe man's spirit has forever existed, so it preexisted, but there is "no reincarnation." "You will always be you throughout eternity," he said. "Oriental mystic religions are total absorbing the oversoul or supreme being. Man ceases to maintain his identity as man."
