USC's budget is an increase of $16.6 million over this past year although $4.8 million of that figure is for funding of USC's medical school and is submitted separately to the commission, Daetwyler said. USC President James B. Holderman appeared before the commission Tuesday to clarify and justify any items. Daetwyler said he and the president will attend the presentation just as "back-up resources." Daetwyler said the university is expecting an increase in enrollment which will result in the need for more faculty. If any reduction in the budget occurs, not only will this need be in danger but other programs such as preventative maintenance, public service activities and special funding for an increase in library book acquisitions may have to be cut, he said.
