General Nuclear Service (AGNS) Reprocessing Plant in
Barnwell is halted.
"Persons living around the Barnwell Plant will receive
doses of radiation many times higher than what the
government calls safe," said Ernest Sternglass, Director of
the Radiological Department of the University of Pittsburgh
School of Medicine. "Because of the early onset of
stroke, heart disease or cancer they simply won't live as

to nuclear energy.
THE ALLIANCE is sponsoring the Barnwell Project, a
nonviolent rally April 29 to Mav 1. to deliver a notitinn tn tho
board of directors, major stockholders and parent corporations
of AGNS. The petition demands are for the plant
to convert to a non-nuclear function or be permanently
closed.
AGNS, 70 miles from Columbia, is a partnership between
Royal Dutch, Shell and Gulf oil companies.
"The Barnwell Plant is the worst threat to the security of
the United States that I can imagine. It's operational
presence gives any nut or foreign enemy the capability of
delivering an irreversibly crippling blow to America," said
John Gofman, co-discoverer of plutonium.
