receive modem medical help said
a Tanzanian doctor Tuesday.
As a part of Health Enrichment
Week, Dr. Cleopas Misuya, on
leave from Tanzania, said African
doctors live in cities when most

depriving a good part of the
population modern medical attention.
Many people of Africa are still
dependent on various types of
traditional folk medicine which
according to Misuya has come into
opposition from modern doctors.
"The objection is amplified by
the image of the doctor as a
frightful, feather-laden savage
saying grace before the prostrate
body of a poor missionary,"
Misuya said.
HE SAID traditional methods
used by the native Africans work.
He said that belladonna, a wellknown
drug among modern
civilizations, has been used by

doctors for 2 million people, a ratio
of one doctor per every 2,000

work. It must be encouraged only
as an addition to modern
technology in medicine," Misuya
said.
