President James B. Holderman praised USC's
Greek organizations for their outstanding service and
talked of the university's inferiority complex at the
Greek Week banquet last Friday night.
"You (the Greeks) do as much, if not more than
any other component of the university to relate it to
the world about us," Holderman said. "USC is a biff
institution, 22,000 or 23,000 students; we're never
really quite sure. We know more about how many
cars we have. We need small units (like Greeks) to
make the place work."
Holderman said of Greek contributions, "You
people are the best recruiter as a whole that the
university has."

A FORMER GREEK, the president pledged future
support to Greek endeavors. "You can be certain that?

Countering this unsubstantiated reputation,
Holderman cited some positive aspects of USC, including:
the university's nationally ranked English
department; the Marine Science department, which
is second only to the University of Hawaii and USC's
music program which won two international competitions
in Hungary in 1976.

for $22,000 by the Greeks as the result of their service
project to raise funds for Riverbanks Zoo. Holderman,
who has never been to the zoo, when presented
with a ticket for it, said, "I've seen enough wild
animals here!"
Presentation of awards then began and the first
category was the Riverbanks service project.
