Films, guest speakers highlight event

International Week, an annual event at USC, begins
today and concludes Saturday evening with an International
Banquet, according to a orociamation bv

Daily events, will feature films and speakers
accenting particular geographic regions.
Monday's programs will focus on Africa. Guest
speaker Dr. Mark Delancey of GINT will speak at 11
a.m. in the Russell House theatre. Robert Oeei-Wusu,
a USC student, will speak and show slides on the
"Puberty Rites of the Krobo People of Ghana."
Asia and Australia will be highlighted Tuesday. Dr.
William Storrer of Media Arts will speak at 1 p.m. in
the theatre on "Asia: Facets of an Oriental
Diamond." Dr. Richard Walker of GINT will present
a program on "Perceptions of China." At 7:30 p.m. an
International Coffee House will be held at the
Presbyterian Student Center.
WEDNESDAY'S EVENTS will concern the Middle
East. Dr. Shahrough Akhavi of GINT will speak on

"Life in the Middle East" at 11 a.m. in the theatre.
Films and slides will also be presented.
Latin America will be the topic of Thursday's
presentations. Dr. Morris Blachman of G1NT will
discuss the Panama Canal Treaties at 11 p.m. and Dr.
Storrer will show slides on "Latin America: A Mostly
Spanish Odyssey," at 1 p.m. in the theatre. "Latinos

Friday morning's topic will be Europe. In addition
to films, Larry Manter, a photo journalist arid backpacker,
will present a slide show at 11 a.m. on
Europe. At 1 p.m., Manter will show slides from a 10
month trip around the world and will discuss inexpensive
overseas travel.
AT 4:30 P.M. USC foreign students will be honored
at a reception at the mansion of Governor James B.
Edwards, 800 Richland St.
International Week festivities will conclude at the
annual International Banquet, featuring food from
many areas of the world. The banquet will be held at
7:30 p.m. Saturday in Capstone Cafeteria. Tickets are
$5 and may be purchased at the table outside the RH
theatre.
