IN /l DECISION handed down by
Chief Judge Michael M. Nunn, the
opinion of the court stated that:
"Residency in the district from
which a candidate files for office is
necessary for service in the
student senate." The court
recommended that Article III,
Sec 2-C of the election statutes be
reworaea lo explicate the ruling
and that candidates be required to
"sign a statement that they understand
this filing procedure." j
The Court also ruled that Henderson
be allowed to run for a
South Tower senate seat and that
her name be re-entered on the
ballot.
Chief Judge Nunn further stated,
4'The court feels that there was a
misunderstanding on Ms. Hen- |
derson's part on the proper filing
procedure, and although the filing
deadline has expired, she showed
specific interest to run for the
senate in the proper seat."

Sorrentino said institutions are
overcrowded and physical
repression is over-used. "The rate

Sorrentino said. . .. <
One reason for the increase in 1
juvenile offenders and repeaters,
he said, is the "erosion of the
family." "In the Los Angeles City
School system, 51 percent of the i
children in ghetto areas are from
one-parent homes. The strong ]
father image is disappearing," he <

Another cause he cited was poor
education. "Compton, California ^
has the lowest reading scores in the
state and the highest crime rate."
"The ideal solution would be to
rechannel young offenders into
group houses where supervision
would be given at an individual
level. But even faced with the
discouraging increase in crime, we
are afraid to try new things."
