A senate-initiated bill was
passed by the senate and signed by
SG president Brad Steele late last
month, but has yet to be approved
by university president James B.
Holderman.
The proposed stipend increase
for SG president is from $1,900 to
$2,250; vice president from $1,300
to $1,850 and treasurer from $1,200
to $1,500.

senator John Pincelli, said, "I felt
it was time for a raise. The last
stipend raise was in 1971, and these
positions have increasingly called
for extra time and effort by the
people involved."
The bill underwent minor
changes before final senate approval,
the major alteration being
a decrease in the amount of the
vice presidential raise. Originally,
the vice president's position was to
receive a pay raise to $2,000, but
objections by SG president Brad
Steele that that was too large a
boost resulted in a compromise
($1,850).
Vice president Joe Drawdy, a
backer of the $2,000 figure, said, "I

idea. I am concerned about the
office of SG vice president; as
president of the senate, the vice

more.
"I had no ulterior motive in
seeking the larger raise. By senate
statue any stipend increases can
only affect future officers and not
incumbent."
