platform of the Young Democrats,
according to Eric T. Carr,
president.
"Our basic purpose as Young
Democrats is to group young
people together so ?hey can
become a force themselves and not
be excluded from the party." Cansaid.
'We are a very large portion of
the population of South Carolina
and there are issues that concern

take an overall look at the issues,
facing the people in general and
injecting the young person's point
of view.'"

"I know there are people who say
that the minimum competency test
will become the maximum people
will achieve, but we will encourage
teachers to avoid that by striving
for much more than just that
required to pass the test." he said.
"We want them to provide a
higher quality education but at
least they i the tests) will
guarantee us for sure that no one
will graduate without a certain
standard of education."
The Young Democrats, who

of revenue received by each individual
school." Carr said.
"WE THINK that the state and
federal government should assure
us that each school system in this
state is guaranteed a certain
amount of revenue so it can perform
at a certain level. You should

Republicans as being against each
other on the campus for campus
issues," Carr said. "We see it as
being on a statewide level, the
politics of the regular party, be it
Republican or Democrat, and that
is where the issues come in."
