USC tennis By BRETT FRIEDLANDER Gamecock Staff Writer The USC men's tennis team defeated Wake Forest Saturday 8-1 for their second straight victory of the season. The Gamecocks, who defeated Jacksonville 7-2 Thursday, won all matches except the second singles. Chuck Hodgin lost to Wake Forest's Alau Farfour 2-6, 7-6, 6-2. "I don't want to take anything away from Farfour's win, but Chuck's a little tired," USC coach Ron Smarr said. "He just got back from playing in the national indoor championships in Maryland yesterday, where he got to the quarter finals in both the singles and doubles." NJlimHor* rtno cinrflo . Sports Editor Carolina's women's swim team ended their season undefeated in a dual meet with USC's men team against Georgia Saturday 96-33 and 79-54. The women finished the year 10-0 while the men closed out their season 7-4. GEORGIA NEVER THREATENED USC at any time during the meet. According to assistant coach Alan Whitaker, the Bulldogs were comparable to USC's swim team of last year. He said a philosophy of hard work and fast training paid off to produce a successful year for both squads. It will be interesting to see how we do against teams like Auburn and Duke." She qualified for the nationals in both the breaststroke and the freestyle individually and also aided the Carolina 200 yard medley relay team to a national qualifying time of 1.51.79. Gribble edged out a Georgia swimmer in the 200 yard breaststroke to give Carolina a commanding lead near the end of the meet.
