The USC men's tennis team
defeated Wake Forest Saturday 8-1
for their second straight victory of
the season.
The Gamecocks, who defeated
Jacksonville 7-2 Thursday, won all
matches except the second singles.
Chuck Hodgin lost to Wake
Forest's Alau Farfour 2-6, 7-6, 6-2.
"I don't want to take anything
away from Farfour's win, but
Chuck's a little tired," USC coach
Ron Smarr said. "He just got back
from playing in the national indoor
championships in Maryland
yesterday, where he got to the
quarter finals in both the singles
and doubles."

serving the ball as well as I'd like,
though."

Carolina's women's swim team
ended their season undefeated in a
dual meet with USC's men team
against Georgia Saturday 96-33 and
79-54.
The women finished the year 10-0
while the men closed out their
season 7-4.
GEORGIA NEVER
THREATENED USC at any time
during the meet. According to
assistant coach Alan Whitaker,
the Bulldogs were comparable to
USC's swim team of last year. He
said a philosophy of hard work and
fast training paid off to produce a
successful year for both squads.

Peter MacDonald, Arthur

also victorious.
"It was a real good effort today,
a real good match," Smarr said.
"We've got some tough matches
ahead of us. It will be interesting
to see how we do against teams like
Auburn and Duke."

Gamecocks were the teams of
Mayotte and Anastopoulo, MacDonald

Randy Osga. Smarr was not
pleased with the play of his number
two doubles team of MacDonald
and Gilbert. "They won, but they
could have played much better,"
he said.
The next match for the
Gamecocks is tomorrow at 2 p.m.
against the College of Charleston.

Mayotte said. "Although
both courts are pretty fast, you
can't lob in there, and besides the
lighting is terrible."
According to Mayotte, the key to
a successful season is the team's
attitude. "If we don't worry about
winning and losing and just go out
and play our best, we'll be all
right," he said.
USC has a tough schedule which
includes 13 teams rated in the preseason
top 25. Coach Smarr is
optimistic about the season, but he
remains jautious.
"WeT, be on the losing side of the
ledger before the season is over,
but as of right now, we're playing
real well," Smarr said.

Carolina head coach Scott
