you do not absolutely have to be in either of

To the Editor:
Although my field of study is
English, and not Economics. I
am able to discern a
peculiarity in a practice
perpetuated by the Gamecock
anacK Bar in tne Kussell
House. This practice involves
the manufacture and sale of
hot tea, a substance from
which I generally derive great
epicurean delight. However,
the peculiarity of the clerks'
behavior, manifested every
time I ask for hot tea. disturbs
a peace of mind necessary for
total enjoy) .lent of this mellow
beverage.
If I ask for a "s mall," I get a
targe cup 01 noi water into
whose contents is immersed
one tea bag; for this I must pay
sixteen cents. A request for a
"large," which merits the
price of twenty-six cents,
results in the appearance of a
large cup of hot water and two
tea bags. Now, I may have
trouble with economic theory,
but I am able to balance a
checkbook, do my own income
tax, and realize that this tea
bag business is not at all
logical. I am also acquainted
with the kitchen and this

acquaintance necessitates
knowledge of simple prices and
measures, knowledge that
allows me to comment without
reservation on the ludicrous
nature of the Snack Bar's
treatment of hot tea.
In other words, when I say
"small," I mean I want a small
cup of hot wat-er with a t8a bag.
When I say "large," I mean I
want a large cup treated in a
similarly appropriate manner.
So why cannot all hot tea cost
sixteen cents? It is obvious that
tne extra dime charged for
"large" is for an extra, totally
useless tea bag. Any worldly
person knows that one small
tea bag may produce from one *
to three cups of tea; only one is
needed for "small" or "large."
I suggest that the Gamecock
Snack Bar consider revision of
this ludicrous, as well as
wasteful, habit of tossing tea
bags irreverently hither ana
yon without paying the
slightest attention to common
sense. Tea drinkers of USC will
then tip their styrofoam cups
and offer a toast of sincerest
gratitude.
