Ciuns are a prevalent factor in today's society, according
to Capt. Marvin Harrelson of the campus police. "Regardless
of what you're going to do, people are going to have
them, he said.
"Our job is to let the students know the rules and give
them every chance to turn their weapons into our security
gun lock."
Students can register and keep personal weapons at the
gun loek. The student is assigned a number and registration
^ card which he uses to check out the gun whenever he wants
to go hunting or go home with the gun.

"Many people don't know or don't understand alxnit the
system," llarrclson said. "We try to work in coordination
with the resident assistants to let the students know. The
key to gun control is to let people know. The guns aren't
confiscated, hut are iust taken care of."
TIIK ('OI)K of student conduct, which is printed in the
student information manual distributed at the beginning of
each year, states, "the unauthorized possession or use, in
any way, of firearms or any other deadly weapon is
prohibited."
The present student conduct code was drawn up l>y the
faculty senate in the late 1960s. Marsha Dunca, director of
campus relations, said, "There is a possibility of rewriting
