Hie USC karate club sponsored
an inter-city karate tournament
Saturday at the Solomon Blatt
P.E. Center.
Hie tournament consisted of a
series of matches between various
karate clubs around Columbia with
different schools participating.
"THIS WAS a verv small
tournament just to give some of
our fighters under the black belt
classification a chance to fight," .
Keith Vitali, president of the USC
karate club, said.
Although the competition was
limited to those below the black
belt classification, several USC
black belts gave exhibition matches.
The black belt is the highest
classification in karate, and USC
has some strong contenders at that
level. USC's black belts include
Keith Vitali, Mike Goldman,
RiohnrH .Inrks/in nr?H 1Vui? Hall
All are rated high in their weight
classes in the Southeast.
The USC karate team will
participate in the Battle of Atlanta
April 2. Vitali and Goldman will be
seeded in this national tournament.
Hie team also will compete in a
Columbia tournament at A.C.
