Rep. John Jenrette Jr., D-S.C., is campaiging for U.S. M;
House deputy majority whip.
' - While acknowledging to The State newspaper that it is nc
"ambitious for a second termer" to consider the post,
Jenrette said he has the experience to do the job.
As deputy majority whip, Jenrette said he could help Jc
mediate differences between the President-elect Jimmy m
Carter and the House leadership because he was the first to he
endorse Carter.
Jenrette says his qualifications for the job include the fact F<
that he put out his own whip notices for the freshmen the SI
last two years; and an associate of Majority Whip John d(
McFall, D-Calif., said he did the best work of anyone in the th
94th Congress as a whip.
Jenrette is indeed ambitious to push for more power in in
Congress after recent revelations of his business practices th
pointed out his sloppy, if not unethical, business practices. m
The Charlotte Observer reported Oct. 3 that a company
controlled by Jenrette sold underwater land to un- IS
suspecting buyers and sold other land it did not own while m
trying to bail out a foundering resort development in North 1c
