Student response to fill vacant
Student Senate seats has been
poor, according to Dave Wilsford,
Student Government president.
The elections, to be held today,
are for 23 empty Senate seats, but
seven of the seats have unopposed
candidates and another six have no
candidates at all. "It's a shame,"

Because of an increase in the
number of bicycle thefts on
campus, the Student Government
(SG) is sponsoring a free bicycle
registration Tuesday through
Thursday.
Registration will be from 10 a.m.
to 4 p.m. each day in front of the
Russell House. SG representatives
have asked that, if possible,
students bring their bicycles. If
not, the make, serial number,
height in inches, color, style, and
number of speeds will be needed
for registration.
SG is conducting the registration

the information to locate bicycles
when stolen.
Identification numbers will be
engraved on bicycles brought to
the registration.
SG CONDUCTED a poll of the
owners of 41 bicycles stolen on
campus Aug. 31 to Sept. 24, and
found that most were stolen between
5 p.m. and 8 a.m. Bicycles
were most frequently stolen from
dormitories not in the center of
campus?Capstone, Columbia Hall
and Bates House.

are Education, seats 3, 4, and 5;
Nursing, seats 1 and 2; and the
Roost, seat 1. Voters in those
districts will be given a blank
ballot, to write-in a candidate. Any
student who wishes to be elected in
these districts must- round up a
minimum of write-in votes to win.

located in the Russell House
Ballroom, and will be open from 9

Court or the charges may be
dropped if the Attorney General
and the involved instructor agree
that they should.
The bill provides for three
sanctions which may be imposed
singly or in combination. These
are: "Recommendation to
professor that a punitive grade be
given, any sanction which the
Campus Court has the power to
imnose for violation of thp Corlp of
Student Conduct," or if the offense
is repeated, and the Court may
suspend the student from the
University.
Funds of $1,220 were appropriated
for today's senate
elections. 23 senate seats are
vacant which the election should
fill. Votes can be cast in the Russell '
House ballroom and a runoff
election will be held Thursday,
October 14, if necessary.
TWO BILLS were presented for
senate vote which previously had
been vetoed by Wilsford. Neither
was overridden.

The other bill presented for
reconsideration proposed that SG
should buy bumper stickers for the
remaining home football games.
Three bills were sent to the
finance committee. One provides
funds for the establishment of a
twice-monthly SG newsletter,
THE SECOND BILL provides 3
funds for the printing of the updated
student Codification of Laws.
The 15 copies to be printed would
be kept in the SG offices.
The third bill sent to the committee
would raise the stipend of
the graduate research assistant
from $2,300 to $2,600. One bill was
sent concerning teacher evaluation
to the Academic Committee.
In the finance committee is a bill
that would appropriate $110 for the
installation of four additional D
telephones in the SG offices. The
bill says that since "the Student
Government has just obtained one
large room to the rear of the
present Student Government
Office, more phones and another
line is needed to accommodate this
space."
